Story – Augustin

Thank you! FOCUS Hispanic Seniors Program of Newark, NJ

I would like to Express my gratitude to the FOCUS Hispanic Seniors Program of Newark, NJ, especially to Maria Manangao and her staff members. My dad, Augustin Hernandez-Rivera was welcomed with open arms upon enrolling into the program. He immediately felt safe and loved by all.

My dad is currently 82 years old and has several health issues including Alzheimer’s. FOCUS Program consist of many activities such as: dominoes, bingo, computer and English learning. They also provide various health or educational workshops for the elders to learn and to follow through at home.

During the outdoor activities, Maria and the staff have the elders engaged and help each other when they go shopping, flea markets, or to the buffets. Most importantly, I have many pictures or memories of my dad when he’s participated as the king for Three Kings Day or FOCUS Queen’s partner. A beautiful event ever!!

In conclusion, I truly appreciate for all the care and love given to my dad. FOCUS is considered a second home for him. Throughout these years, I was able to work peacefully knowing that my dad was in a safe environment.

My sincere “Thank you!” to all FOCUS STAFF, my family, and friends. Many years to come!
